Work tables take more abuse than any other item in a kitchen and are the item most often under-specified. Ours use a 1.2 mm top on a reinforced sub-frame with sound-deadening, so the surface does not drum or dish under a chopping board, and the undershelf carries real load rather than sagging in a season.
